Nuvama (Edelweiss) Android App

The Nuvama Android app is a real, working tool for Indian clients of Nuvama Wealth and Investment Limited, formerly Edelweiss Broking Limited, and it is distributed through Google Play rather than as a standalone APK file. That distinction matters more than it sounds, so we will deal with it directly.

Most searches for a "Nuvama app download apk" come from one of two places: someone who wants to install the app without Play Store access, or someone who has been sent an APK link by a messaging group and wants to know whether it is genuine. The first case has a workable answer. The second case is where money gets lost, and we will come back to it.

What The App Actually Does

Nuvama offers broking through its website, a mobile application, a terminal, and API-based trading platforms. The Android app is the retail-facing layer of that stack, built around the Indian market rather than global CFD trading.

The instrument list is domestic. Nuvama's own material confirms broking in equity securities, derivatives, and currencies, with broader Nuvama material also referencing mutual funds and other wealth products. Base currency is INR. The India-facing business is centred on Indian clients and rupee-denominated services, and no public source lists an official base-currency menu beyond that.

So the honest framing is this: the app is a gateway to Indian exchange-traded products, not to spot forex or offshore CFDs. That is a structural fact about the business, not a limitation of the app itself.

Downloading The APK Safely

An APK file is an Android installation package. Sideloading one means installing software from outside Google Play. The following conditions apply if you go that route.

The only legitimate source for a Nuvama APK is Nuvama itself. That means the official Nuvama website, or the link issued inside your own account correspondence. Any APK arriving via WhatsApp, Telegram, or a shortened URL should be treated as unverified regardless of how professional the landing page looks.

The RBI publishes an Alert List of unauthorised forex trading platforms. As of the 19 November 2025 update the list totals 95 entities, and RBI states the list is not exhaustive. Source: RBI press releases as of November 2025; verify the current version at RBI.

That list concerns unauthorised forex platforms specifically. It is not a list of fake broker apps. But the mechanics of the fraud are the same, and cloned broker apps are one of the common patterns: an app that looks like a broker, accepts deposits through UPI, shows a growing balance on screen, and then blocks withdrawals. A recovery-agent follow-on scam usually arrives within days of the first complaint.

WARNING
An APK file sent to you by anyone other than Nuvama is unverified software with access to your phone. No legitimate broker needs you to install outside the Play Store.

Device And Account Requirements

Opening a Nuvama account, and therefore using the app with a live account, runs through KYC. The following documents are required: PAN card, which is mandatory, plus Aadhaar, an address proof such as Aadhaar, a utility bill or a bank statement, typically issued within about three months, and bank proof such as a cancelled cheque.

Approval usually takes 24 to 48 hours. The app can be installed before that, but it will not trade until the account clears.

On the device side, the practical constraints are the same as any Indian broking app. A reasonably current Android version, stable mobile data, and enough storage for charting and order book data. We have not seen a published minimum OS version from Nuvama, so check the Play Store listing for the current requirement rather than relying on a number from a third-party page.

Payments Inside The App

Indian brokerage settlement runs on INR rails. UPI through PhonePe or Google Pay is near-instant and available around the clock, with an NPCI limit of roughly Rs 1 lakh per transaction and per day. IMPS clears in minutes. NEFT, RTGS, and NetBanking through banks such as HDFC or SBI are also standard.

Because SEBI-recognised exchange trading settles in INR, there is no domestic FX conversion step. You fund in rupees and you settle in rupees.

The nuance is that offshore brokers advertising UPI deposits for spot forex operate outside the legal framework. Rupee payment rails being convenient does not make the destination legal. This is one of the clearest tells when evaluating any platform that appears in a mobile app store.

Where The App Stops Short

RBI and FEMA permit Indian residents to trade only INR-based currency pairs, specifically USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR, and JPY/INR, plus permitted cross-currency derivatives on SEBI-recognised exchanges, which are NSE, BSE, and MSE. Trading spot forex or CFDs with offshore brokers is illegal for residents, and remitting funds abroad for margin forex trading is not a permitted LRS purpose.

That constraint shapes what the Nuvama app can sensibly be expected to do. It is a domestic securities and exchange-traded derivatives tool. It is not a route to 100x leverage on XAG/USD, and no legitimate Indian app is.

This is where the real choice sits for Indian traders who want broader instrument access. If your strategy needs global markets, you are looking at international brokers, and the question becomes which ones are worth the friction.

When evaluating an international broker, the criteria that actually predict a decent experience are these: regulation at a tier-one level such as FCA, CySEC, or ASIC; segregated client funds held at a separate institution; commission and spread schedules published rather than quoted on request; a track record measured in years, not months; and support that answers in a reasonable time. Brokers meeting those tests are a different category of counterparty from the ones appearing on warning lists. That is the standard we would apply, and it is a standard you can verify yourself rather than take on trust.

For residents using the LRS route, the Liberalised Remittance Scheme caps outward remittance at USD 250,000 per resident per financial year, tracked at PAN level, and a 20% TCS applies to the portion above Rs 10 lakh per year. Margin or leveraged forex trading is not a permitted LRS end-use, so LRS cannot legally fund an overseas forex or CFD account. Verify with the RBI LRS FAQ before planning around it.

Costs And Tax Basics

Nuvama's public trading page advertises a flat brokerage rate of Rs 20 per order for equity and F&O. The Lite Plus plan is highlighted on a public microsite along with dedicated support. That is the extent of the publicly stated pricing we can confirm, so treat any other figure with suspicion until you see it in your own contract note.

Tax treatment is where Indian traders most often get surprised.

Position typeTreatmentLoss carry-forward
Exchange-traded currency F&ONon-speculative business income, slab rates8 years
Intraday speculativeSpeculative business income4 years, against speculative only
CryptoFlat 30% plus 4% cessSeparate treatment

The tax authority is the Income Tax Department under the Central Board of Direct Taxes. Residents must declare worldwide income and foreign assets under Schedule FA. Rates are as of the review; confirm with incometax.gov.in before filing.

FYI
The 20% TCS on LRS remittances above Rs 10 lakh per financial year is an advance-tax credit, not a fee. The threshold was raised from Rs 7 lakh effective 1 April 2025.

Risks Before You Commit

The genuine risks with an app-first Indian broking account are mundane rather than dramatic, but they cost real money.

  • Cloned apps. A logo and a colour scheme are trivial to copy. Install from Nuvama or not at all.
  • Signal group solicitation. Telegram and WhatsApp groups promising guaranteed monthly returns are one of the most common fraud patterns in India, and they usually route deposits through unauthorised platforms on the RBI Alert List.
  • Regulatory scope. Nuvama is an Indian securities company. Its Indian regulation covers Indian broking and depository services. It does not extend to instruments outside that perimeter, and it should not be assumed to.
  • Instrument limits. Only INR-based currency pairs and permitted cross-currency derivatives on recognised exchanges are available to residents.
  • Slippage and liquidity. Domestic F&O liquidity thins out in the last thirty minutes of the session, which is worth knowing before placing market orders at 15:25 IST.

None of these are reasons to avoid the app. They are reasons to be specific about what you are installing and what you expect it to trade.

Our Call

The Nuvama Android app does what a domestic Indian broking app is supposed to do. It is a competent front end to an Indian securities business with a large domestic footprint, and it is the right tool if your trading is Indian equities, F&O, and exchange-traded currency derivatives.

Worth it for: Indian residents trading equity, F&O, or the four permitted INR currency pairs on NSE, BSE, or MSE. The flat Rs 20 per order rate is simple to model, INR settlement removes a conversion layer, and the app is one of several access channels alongside web, terminal, and API. If your strategy is domestic, this covers it.

Not worth it for: traders whose plan depends on global instruments, high leverage, or spot forex. That is a mismatch between the product and the plan. If that describes you, the sensible move is to evaluate international brokers against the criteria above, tier-one regulation, segregated funds, published pricing, a long track record, and responsive support, and check each one against the RBI Alert List before anything else. Understanding the regulatory perimeter first saves a lot of time later.
